Medea Abrahamyan Cello
Medea Abrahamyan, a celebrated Armenian cellist, began her musical education at the Yerevan Musical High School. She then moved to Moscow, and entered the Moscow "Tchaikovsky" State Conservatory, where she studied with the legendary cellist Mstislav Rostropovich. Ms. Abrahamyan is a laureate of several national and international music competitions, including the G.Vigan International Competition (Prague).
Since graduating, Ms. Abrahamyan has pursued an active performance career as a soloist in concerts and music festivals throughout Armenia and the nations of the former Soviet Union, as well as in Poland, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Hungary, Iceland, Korea, the Middle East, Canada, and the US, among other places. Her repertoire is rather extensive, covering the great cello works from the Classical, Romantic, and Modern eras. Beyond this, Ms. Abrahamyan has placed considerable effort in performing works by contemporary Armenian composers, many of which have been dedicated to her - and several of which are featured here at the Classical Archives.
Medea Abramyan currently is a professor of cello performance at Yerevan State Conservatory, and teaches at Master Classes all over the world. We are very pleased to feature her recordings here at the Classical Archives.
"Unerring perception of style, sharpened attention to the dramatic peculiarities of the composition, subtle elaborations of dynamics and musical timbres - these are the properties of Abrahamyan's artistic nature."
Soviet Music (Russia)
"In her masterly hands, the cello turns into an amazing instrument that enables her to reproduce her subtle musical tastes in each and every work she performs. Her expressiveness appears limitless because her technique is immaculate and always in service of the intellect - an intellect that is musical in all its strivings."
