Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation, Sergey Sudzilovsky studied cello in the class of Professor I.Volchkov at the Gnessin Special Music School in Moscow, and received his undergraduate and doctorate degrees from the Moscow Conservatory, where his teacher was Professor N. Shakhovskaya.
In 1976, Sudzilovsky won his first international prize at the Dvorak International Competition in Prague. The following year, he won Second Prize at the All-Union Cello Competition in Vilnius and was a top prizewinner at the 6th International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow.
A Soloist with the Moscow Philharmonic Society since 1993, Sudzilovsky has concertized in the USA, England, Sweden, Germany, Czechoslovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, and Finland, performing in such distinguished venues as the Great Halls of the Moscow and St. Petersburg Conservatories, Moscow's Tchaikovsky Hall, and the Schauspielhaus in Berlin, Manuel de Falla Concert Hall in Madrid, King's College Concert Hall in England, and the Gewandhaus in Germany.
He has performed under the batons of G. Roszdestvensky, V.Gergiev, and V.Ponkin; collaborated with such leading artists as A.Diev, A.Rudin, A.Korsakov, A.Knyasev, D.Sitkovetsky, and A.Rabinovitch; and participated in the Schleswig-Holstein festival in Germany, the Lyons festival in France, the Umea festival in Sweden, the Korsholm festival in Finland, and many others. He is also a member of the Premier Trio, which tours internationally under the auspices of the Moscow State Philharmonic Association.
From 1987-97, Sudzilovsky was Professor of Cello at the Gnessin Academy of Music, and, since 1995, has taught at the Ippolitov-Ivanov Academy of Music in Moscow. He leads master classes in Russia, Europe, and Asia, and is a Jury member of international competitions, such as the Tchaikovsky and Classical Heritage in Russia, and the Chamber Music of Trapani, Italy.
Sudzilovsky frequently appears on Russian radio and television, and is the founder and host of, "In the World of the Arts," on Moscow Radio. He is also the Founder and Artistic Director of the "Instrumental Theater" in Moscow.
Sudzilovsky records for the Melodiya, Olympia, Dumont, and Etcetera labels.
