Alexey Volkov, born in 1959, has become a leading saxophonist in Russia today, performing particularly on the alto and soprano sax. He is a regular soloist with the Bolshoi Theater Orchestra, and is an active saxophone professor teacher at the Ippolitov-Ivanov Music Institute in Moscow. He has been a soloist with numerous orchestras, and is the director of the Moscow Saxophone Quartet, which appears frequently throughout Russia and abroad - including at numerous music festivals. Mr. Volkov has worked closely with numerous contemporary Russian composers, often premiering works written expressly for him, including works by Andrei Eshpai, Edison Denisov, Ephraim Podgaits, and Yuri Kasparov - all composers featured here at the Classical Archives. His contribution to contemporary Russian music for the saxophone has earned him the title of Honored Artist of Russia.
