Emeritus Artist of the Russian Federation, Vera Gornostaeva, is a graduate of the Moscow State Conservatory, where her teacher was the Russian pianist and pedagogue, Heinrich Neuhaus, one of the founders of the contemporary Russian piano school.
In addition to her extensive performing career, Gornostaeva is a prominent professor at the Moscow Conservatory; holds masterclasses in Italy, Germany, France, Switzerland, the USA, and the UK. She has presented masterclasses in Japan since 1990 under the auspices of the Yamaha Musical Fund that are broadcast by NHK-TV. Her book, “Two Hours After the Concert” was translated and published there.
Other educational activities include leading annual seminars for Russian music teachers; giving lectures on radio and TV on classical music and the performing arts; and publishing articles and books. She is a jury member and often chairman of the jury at many prestigious international music competitions, and is also the President of the Moscow Association of Musicians.
Professor Gornostaeva is renowned for having trained 26 winners of international piano contests, including Alexander Slobodianik, Simeon Kruchin, Dina Yaffe, Pavel Egorov, Eteri Andzhaparidze (Russia), Ivo Pogorelich (Yugoslavia), Marian Pivka (Czech republic), Ayako Uehara (Japan), Yurie Miura (Japan) and others.
She has made numerous recordings for Phillips, Phoenix, Yamaha, and other labels of piano works by Brahms, Chopin, Debussy, Liszt, Schumann, Schubert, Scriabin, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Prokofiev, and Shostakovich.
