Rem Khabibullin was born in 1972 in the village of Aktuba in the Republic of Tatarstan (today, a constituent republic of the Russia Federation), and began his musical studies at age 10, studying guitar with his father. In 1987, he moved to Moscow and entered the Moscow State Conservatory, and later the Gnessin Musical College - where he studied under Professor N.Komolyatov. Since then he has been a laureate of several competition, including the 5th All-Russian Guitar Competition (1st Prize, Voronezh, 1994), the 1st International Guitar Competition in Cherepovets (1995), and the "Guitar in Russia" Competition in Voronezh (1996).
Rem regularly performs in some of the best concert halls in Russia, both as a soloist and with such esteemed ensembles as the Russian Symphony Orchestra, the Credo Ensemble of Ancient Music, among others. He has likewise collaborated with such outstanding soloists as harpsichordist Elena Butusova, violinist Eduard Takhalov. As seen here at the Classical Archives, he possesses a wide repertory, ranging from guitar transcriptions of keyboard works by Baroque composers such as Bach and Scarlatti, to guitar works of Spanish masters such as Rodrigo and Ponce, to more contemporary works, such as those of Argentinean tango master Astor Piazzola.
