Clarinetist Julian Milkis received his education at both Juilliard and the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied with Leon Russianoff, as well as the legendary Benny Goodman. He has received numerous awards, particularly in his native Canada. He won the Canada Council and Floyd Chalmers awards, four consecutive years. Milkin has achieved international status as a chamber musician and soloist. He has performed as a soloist with such prestigious orchestras as the Toronto Symphony, the Moscow State Symphony orchestra, the Hamburg Mozarteum, the Edmonton Symphony, and l'Orchestre National de Lyon. As a chamber musician, Milkis has collaborated with such top musicians as Valery Afansiev, Yuri Bashmet, Gerald Caussé, and the Borodin String Quartet. He is very active as a participant in various musical festivals, such as Sviatoslav Richter's Chamber Music Festival in Moscow, which he has performed in since 1991.
Milkis has recorded extensively for the Russian Disk, Melodiya, and Suoni e Colori labels, usually with his wife, pianist Nina Kogan, herself, a renowned soloist and graduate of the Moscow Conservatory of Music.
