Alexei Nasedkin

Alexei Arkadiyevich Nasedkin, born in Moscow on December 20, 1942, is one of the most distinguished pianists in Russia today. Nasedkin is a graduate of the Moscow Conservatory, where he studied under famed pianists Heinrich Neuhaus and Lev Naumov. He performs regularly as both a soloist and as a chamber musician, collaborating with such esteemed musicians as conductor, Konstantin Ivanov, cellist Natalia Gutam, flutist Alexander Korneyev, and violinist Victor Pikaizen.

Nasedkin has performed extensively in Europe and Asia, with particular success in Japan. He has received top awards in several prestigious international piano competitions, including First Prize at the 1967 Franz Schubert Competition in Vienna, as well as similar honors at competitions in Moscow, Brussels, Leeds, Munich, and elsewhere. Beyond his talents as a performer, he has devoted much attention to teaching. He is currently a piano professor at the Moscow Conservatory, where among his many gifted students was Uri Bogdanov, recently awarded First Prize at the Franz Schubert Grand Prix Competition in Vienna (1995).

Indeed, the music of Schubert plays a significant role in Nasedkin's musical identity, and we are delighted to have his wonderful performances of the composer's impromptus and Moments musicaux here at the Classical Archives. Nasedkin's playing is characterized by a beautiful and refined tone, virtuosic technique, and a deeply insightful sense of the formal and phrase structure of the music. The range of his musical output is vast, from Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert to Prokofiev, Berg, and Britten. Maestro Nasedkin is also a prominent composer, and holds the honorary title of People's Artist of Russia.

Reviews

"This is the best key-touch one might hear; this is top-class virtuoso playing; this is musical temperament, rich, expressive, and amazingly noble... Few pianists achieve such a degree of perfection, where there is no obstacle left between what he wants to do and what he does."

Beaux arts (Belgium)

"[Nasedkin] plays like an artist painting on canvas with wide strokes and swift lines. He possesses the power of persuasion and perfect technique... Profound intellect multiplied by mastery of the piano makes his playing truly phenomenal."

Victoria Times

"This talent can be undoubtedly ranked among the best contemporary masters of the pianistic art."
