Evgeny Polikanin graduated from the Lunarcharsky State Theater Institute in 1974, studying with P.Korobkov. Following graduation he became a soloist in several opera companies, including the Kuibyshev Opera, from 1975. Since 1991 he has been a soloist with the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theater. Beyond these, Mr. Polikanin has appeared with the Vienna Chamber Opera and Vienna Festival "Mozart in Schoenbrunn" (1994-96), the National Opera in Paris (2002), and with such orchestras as the Russian National Symphony Orchestra (under Mikhail Pletnev), the State Symphony Chapel of Russia (under Valery Polyansky) and the Orchestra of the Moscow State Philharmonic Society (under Vladimir Ponkin). He has toured with these companies and ensembles throughout Europe, Canada, Australia, South Korea, and the US - including a solo recital at Carnegie Hall in 1999. Among his many operatic roles include Athanael in Thais, Jago in Othello, Don Carlos in Ernani, Escamillo in Carmen, Marcello in La Boheme, Sharpless in Madame Butterfly, Silvio in I Pagliacci, Onegin in Eugene Onegin and Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia—featured here at the Classical Archives.
