Kirill Shtybin was born in the Russian town of Sredneuralsk, on the Eastern side of the Ural Mountains, and began his musical training at the local music school. Following his triumph at a regional bayan (or Russian button-accordion) competition at age 14, Kirill entered the Mussorgsky Ural State Conservatory, where he met and studied with such top performers as A.J.Trofimov and Z.I.Alyoshina. In 1999, Kirill entered the Russian Gnessin Academy of Music in Moscow, where he studied under the great Professor F.R.Lips. During this period, he participated in numerous concerts, competitions, and festivals in Russia and beyond. Among the awards he has won thus far include 1st Prize in the 4th International "Bayan and Bayanists" Competition (Moscow, 2005); 1st Prize in the Arrasate Hiria Competition (Spain, 2003); 1st Prize in the Citta di Lanciano (Italy, 2002); 1st Prize in the Taijan International Accordion Competition (China, 2002); 2nd Prize in the Citta di Castelfidardo (Italy, 2002); 1st Prize at the 3rd International "Play the Bayan" Competition (Russia, 2000), and others. As a result of such victories, as well as his thrilling performances, Kirill is being heralded as one of the most talented young representatives of the Russian Bayan School; and we are pleased to feature him here at the Classical Archives.
