Andrei Slavny

Andrei Slavny graduated from the St. Petersburg Conservatory, where he studied voice with Professor E.Gromovoa and I.Alekseev, and choral conducting with Professor A.Niklusov. Upon graduating in 1990, he pursued post-graduate work at the Conservatory under Professor K.Pluzhnikov, as well as Master Classes in Salzburg, Austria with M.Shirai and H.Hoell.

Mr. Slavny is a laureate of several vocal competitions, including the National Glinka Competition (1989) and the International A.Dvorak Competition (1989). He has performed at such esteemed opera houses as the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg and the Opéra Bastille in Paris; as well as in Latvia, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Italy, France, Belgium, Germany, the Czech Republic, and the United States.

Among his key operatic roles include the part of Figaro in Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia, the Merchant of Vedenets in Rimsky-Korsakov's Sadko, the Prince in Rimsky-Korsakov's Kaschei the Immortal, and the title role in Wolfgang Rihm's 2001 opera, Jakob Lenz; he also sang the baritone part in Britten's War Requiem with the Japan's Philharmonic under Seiji Ozawa. Further, his repertoire contains some 900 pieces of Russian and European vocal works, including numerous new works written for him. Mr. Slavny has taught chamber singing at the St. Petersburg Conservatory since 1994.
