Martin Sturfalt

Martin Sturfalt was born in a small town near Stockholm, Sweden, in 1979. He started to play piano at age 4, inspired by his grandfather who was an organist. In 1991, he began studying with Esther Bodin-Karpe, in Stockholm, and later studied at the Royal University College of Music, in Stockholm, between 1998 and 2001, where his teacher was Stefan Bojsten. Since September, 2001, Martin has been studying with Paul Roberts and Ronan O'Hora, at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, in London.

Martin has had the opportunity to take part in the master classes with distinguished teachers such a Håkon Austbø, Oxana Yablonskaya, Dominique Merlet, Peter Donohoe and Leslie Howard.

Since the age of 12, Martin has performed extensively as a soloist and as a chamber musician, in Sweden, the United Kingdom, Russia, Germany, Norway, Poland and Denmark.

Martin has frequently participated in piano festivals and competitions and was recently awarded first prize, in the 2002 Yamaha competition, in the United Kingdom. He has also won many major prizes and awards in Sweden, and has received financial support from the Royal Swedish Academy of Music.

He has recorded for Swedish radio, TV, and CD for the Swedish label, Caprice Records.
