Duo Violoncellissimo

Created in 1995, Duo Violoncellissimo (Olga Veselina, cello, and Vadim Larchikov, cello and viola da gamba) is dedicated in part to resurrecting forgotten or rarely performed works from Baroque and Classical composers, such as F.Couperin, J. Bodin de Boismortier, W. de Fesch, Boccherini, G.B.Viotti, and Mozart. Beyond this, the Duo has actively promoted the contemporary cello duo repertoire - as seen in the recordings featured here at the Classical Archives. They have commissioned and premiered numerous works, including those by E.Gross (Australia), R. De Smet (Belgium), G.Arnaoudov (Bulgaria), U.Krigul (Estonia), V.Dinescu (Germany), A.Jasenka (Lithuania), G.Agudelo, V.Rasgado (Mexico), D.Capyrin, K.Umansky (Russia), V.Poleva, L.Samodaieva, A.Shchetynsky, L.Yurina, A.Zagaykevych, S.Zazhitko (Ukraine), Ch.Arrell, J.Pehrson (US), and others.

The Duo maintains a busy schedule, giving concerts and participating in music festivals in Ukraine and abroad - with travels to Azerbaijan, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Mongolia, Poland, Russia, Sweden, and the United States. They have thus far recorded five Cds, and have received honours at six international competitions, in Italy, Finland, Sweden, and the US.

Olga Veselina was born in Zaporozhye, Ukraine, and graduated in cello performance from Odessa Music Academy in 1998. Following graduation, she continued her cello studies with F.Gauwerky, Y.Chiffoleau and L.Fels. In addition to her work with the Duo, Ms. Veselina is also a founding member of The Frescos Contemporary Music Ensemble - which is likewise featured as a chamber ensemble here at the Classical Archives. She has also participated in numerous music festivals and concerts beyond her work with these two ensembles. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Musicology at the Music Academy in Kiev on the topic of music for cello duo since 1945.

Vadim Larchikov, like Ms. Veselina, works in both the Duo Violoncellissimo and The Frescos Contemporary Music Ensemble, of which he is the Artistic Director. In addition, Vadim Larchikov is an active composer with his own page here at the Classical Archives.
