Sviatoslav Lips
|
Born in Moscow in 1974, Sviatoslav Lips began studying music at the age of three with his father, the famous bayanist Friedrich Lips. In 1981 he entered the Central School of the Moscow Conservatory in the classes of Professors A.Artobolevskaya and L.Naumov, and, in 1992, graduated from the Moscow Conservatory in the class of Professor L.Naumov.
Lips won First Prize in the Città di Stresa International Competition for Young Pianists (Italy, 1991), as well as First Prize at the Maria Canals International Piano Competition in Barcelona (Spain, 1994). In addition to concertizing in Russia, he also performs in Austria, Germany, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, and Japan, and has participated in the Lockenhaus Festival (Austria) and the Tcherepnin International Festival of Modern Music (Japan).
Sviatoslav Lips has collaborated with such renowned artists as violinists G.Kremer, Vl.Igolinsky, and A.Gutnikov; cellists V.Toncha and K.Rodin; accordianists F.Lips and M.Rantanen; percussionist M.Pekarsky; and singers, T. Kueendgy and A.Kerrigan. He has appeared as soloist with orchestra under the batons of V.Barsov, A.Boreyko, V.Polyansky, M.Sherbakov, U.Schneider, P.Decker, and others.
Lips has performed in some of the world's finest concert halls, including the Palau de la Musica Catalana in Barcelona, the Sala Mozart in Zaragoza, and the Teatro Victoria Eugenia in San-Sebastian - all in Spain; in Germany, the Dr. Oetker Halle in Bielefeld and the Tonhalle in Duesseldorf; in Japan, the Kokusai Forum Centre in Tokyo and the Kanagawa Concert Hall in Yokohama; and in Russia, the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow, and many others.
Lips has performed on Russian radio and television and has recorded for the Nonesuch, DML Classic, and ACEA-002 labels.
