Sorokina-Bakhchiev Duet
|
Elena Sorokina and Alexander Bakhchiev have been performing as a professional piano duet for more than thirty years, and are considered among the pioneers in regenerating popular interest in the four-hand piano repertory among Russian fans, artists, and composers. They have assembled an enormous repertoire extending through the entire history of music for piano four hands.
Both pianists are graduates of the Moscow Conservatory, and both currently serve on its faculty. Elena Sorokina has a doctorate degree in music history, and is the author of the monograph, The History of the Piano Duet Genre. She currently serves as vice-president and chair of the Department of Russian Music History at the Moscow Conservatory. Alexander Bakhchiev is a laureate of several international competitions, including the Third World Youth and Student Festival (Berlin) competitions. Throughout his nearly forty-year career as a soloist and chamber musician, he has made over sixty recordings featuring music ranging from the Baroque to the present day; he has been the dedicatee of several contemporary Russian works, including the Introitus Concerto of Sofia Gubaidulina. Likewise, the Sorokina-Bakhchiev Duet has been the dedicatee of several four-hand piano works, by Russian composers such as G.Fried, I.Manukyan, and Efrem Podgaits, as well as by British composer T.Moore.
The Sorokina-Bakhchiev Duet has performed throughout Russia, as well as across Western Europe, and in Israel, Japan, Canada, and the US. In 1990, the Duet was elected as co-Presidents of the Russian Association of Piano Duets. We are delighted to feature this distinguished Duet here at the Classical Archives.
