Vladimir Belyaev

Vladimir Beliaev was born in Moscow in 1948, and completed his musical training at the Moscow Conservatory, studying composition with Professor M.Tchulaki. He has received a number of Russian and international awards for his work, most notably the Dimitri Shostakovich Prize. Mr. Beliaev is an expressly Russian composer, frequently employing some element of Russian folklore in his works - as in such works as cycle Down by the River, the cantata Don, Our Father, and the collection of Russian Christmas Carols - all found here at the Classical Archives.

Mr. Beliaev's works have been performed by such prominent Russian artists as conductors V.Dudarova, N.Nekrassov, N.Kalinin, and V.Verbitsky, and soloists F.Lips, A.Skliarov, V.Avraliov and V.Petrov - many of whom have premiered his works. Mr. Beliaev has composed a wide range of works - orchestral, chamber, and choral - and is particularly esteemed for his colorful orchestration and virtuosic approaches to choral writing - such as in the choral suite Tongue-Twisters - found here at the Classical Archives. In some of his works, moreover, Mr. Beliaev employs a "neo-classical" approach, such as in the Sonata for clarinet and bassoon, likewise found here at the Classical Archives. Mr. Beliaev is currently a Professor of Music at the National Gnessins Academy of Music.
