Lambert was a musician and tutor in Paris for Gaston of Orleans, brother of Louis XIII. He was known as an important singer and teacher, even in his own time, and holds a position as the most important composer of French airs in the second half of the 17th century. Through his compositions, Lambert played a part in influencing the French opera composers of his day. © Lynn Vought, All Music Guide
