Loading, please wait...Chinese composer A Ke Jian is also a respected violinist and teacher. Born in Chungking, Jian began his studies at the State School of Music in Szechuan at age 12; ultimately, Jian studied with Ma Sicong at the Chinese Central Conservatory. Upon completing his studies with Tan Shuzhen at the Shanghai Conservatory in 1959, Jian joined the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra as a violinist; later he headed the Shanghai Symphony's Chinese Symphonic Creation Data Centre. As a composer, Jian is best known as the author ascribed to the "Hong Hu" or Honghu Lake Violin Concerto, although some sources give this as a work written by committee. Jian has compiled at least two violin methods and has composed a number of other works and arrangements of traditional music, including the flute and orchestral work Yi Melody and symphonic works such as Nocturne, Xianzi Dance, Song of Huayi, and The Golden Peacock. © Uncle Dave Lewis, All Music Guide
