Egerton Manuscript 3307 in the British Library (GB-Bl Eg.3307) is a late medieval manuscript copied out between 1430 and 1444. While its origin is disputed, scholar George McPeek suggested in 1963 that it was compiled for use at St. George's Chapel in Windsor. The first five pages are missing, as are three other pages that appear to have been cut out, perhaps to harvest the volume's handsome miniatures. Among the couple of miniatures that remain, the images of medieval drinking and carousing are justly renowned. The music contained therein, however, is truly noteworthy; among the 53 pieces contained, 33 are carols and there is one drinking song in Latin. These are found in the second section of the manuscript; the first contains 18 sacred pieces, including a mass, several hymns, and other liturgical works. All of the pieces are anonymous, though one has been identified as the work of John Dunstaple.
