Jörg Widmann is a clarinetist and composer who writes not only for his own instrument, but in nearly all genres: choral, orchestral, chamber music, concerto, and opera. He has written a cycle of five string quartets, and a trilogy of orchestral works based on forms normally performed by voices or a choir. He has won prizes for several compositions and served as composer-in-residence at a number of festivals. Widmann also performs frequently both as a soloist and a chamber musician, and teaches at the Freiburg Staatliche Hochschule für Musik.
