Dmitry Stepanovich was born in 1974 in Moscow, and has exhibited diverse musical talents from an early age. He possesses an unusual mix of skills: as a composer, pianist and vocalist (bass) - a rare combination indeed. He studied music theory and composition at the Gnessin's State Musical College, graduating in 1993; he studied voice at the Moscow State Conservatory under V.Dikopolskaya and P.Gluboky, graduating in 1998; and he studied piano with famed pianist Julia Turkina.
Dmitry has been most visible as a vocalist, notably as a prizewinner at the 1998 Rachmaninov International Vocal Competition. Among the major vocal roles he has undertaken to date include the roles of Moses in Rossini's Moses (Russian premier), Corpo in Cavalieri's La Rappresentazione di Anima e di Corpo, Russlan in Glinka's Russlan and Ludmilla, Dulcamara in Doniezetti's L'Elisir d'Amore, and Doctor Bartolo in Rossini's Il Barbiere di Siviglia. He has been a soloist with the Stanislavsky Opera since 1996. His operatic work has taken him throughout Russia, as well as to France, Poland, and to the regions of the former Yugoslavia.
As these recordings demonstrate, Dmitry is an eclectic and prolific musician with wide-ranging tastes - from Bach to contemporary music. His original works are likewise quite varied, though in general reveal a somewhat traditional approach to form and harmony, with a notable affinity for Russian music - particularly in his vocal works.
