Ashot Zohrabyan was born in Yerevan, Armenia in 1945, and pursued her musical education principally at the Yerevan State Komitas Conservatory from 1967 to 1972, studying composition with Professor Grigori Yeghiazaryan. Following graduation, he entered the faculty of the Conservatory, first as a teacher of music theory and instrumentation, and later as Professor of Composition (since 1980). His music has been performed throughout Armenia, as well as in Russia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Ukraine, Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, and the US.

Mr. Zhorabyan was written works in various genres, but with a penchant for chamber music - most elaborately in his two-volume collection entitled Boomerang Gangs, performed in Yerevan as well as at the Pompidou Center in Paris. In much of his music, Mr. Zhorabyan aims to make a direct connection with the music traditions of his native country.
