Sounds of the Woods Ensemble Chamber Ensemble   

The Sounds of the Woods Ensemble is a new chamber ensemble featuring woodwind soloists from the Bolshoi Theater Orchestra. The current members are Stanislav Katenin, bassoon and artistic director; Maria Volkova, flute; Denis Bokaryov, clarinet; and Alexey Raev, french horn. The fifth member of the ensemble is pianist Marina Tyakht, a professor at the Gnessin Academy of Music. Each member of the ensemble has enjoyed success as a soloist, and each is a laureate of international performance competitions. Their mutual formation of the Sounds of the Woods Ensemble came out of a desire, in their words, "to deliver to listeners the beauty and delicacy of woodwind chamber music... that is rare in the modern music scene." Their performances reveal great respect to the original sources, coupled with a desire to explore the creative potential of their individual and collective interpretation. While they perform a wide variety of music, they have focused particular attention on the woodwind chamber music of Russian composers, such as Rachmaninov, Taneev, Rimsky-Korsakov, Glinka, Denisov, and others - as featured here at the Classical Archives. We are pleased to feature this talented chamber ensemble.
