Die Gassenhauer

Die Gassenhauer is a trio of clarinet, cello, and piano, specializing in historically informed performances of music of the Classic and Romantic periods, particularly those of Ludwig van Beethoven. Indeed, their name stems from Beethoven's famous set of Variations on Clarinet Trio in Eb, Op.11. Among their competition awards are the "Best Interpretation Award" and "Prize of the Public" at Musica Antiqua - a very prestigious Early Music festival; and the Jury Prize at the 1999 Alte Musik Treff competition in Berlin. They perform regularly at festivals in Denmark (the Vendsyssel Festival), Germany (the Tage Alte Musik in Osnabruck), Holland (the Oude Muziek Netwerk), and Belgium (the Festival des MidisMinimes, Brussels). The three members have all received advanced education: Sofronitzky at the Moscow Conservatory and Oberlin College; Ehrhardt at the Royal Conservatory, in The Hague; and Serbin at Moscow's Gnessin's Music School. All three developed a passion for historical performance before joining forces in 1999.
