Formed in 1991 at the prestigious Britten-Pears School, the Angell Piano Trio was described in 1996 by the Berner Zeitung as an "ensemble of astonishing technical and musical maturity." Formed of three extraordinary musicians who have studied with Andras Schiff, Menahem Pressler and Siegmund Nissel of the Amadeus String Quartet, the Trio twice held the prestigious position of Ensemble-in-Residence at the Britten-Pears School and is now in residence at the University of Essex.
The Trio has performed at many of London's major concert halls, including the prestigious Wigmore Hall, on BBC3 Radio, and at many major festivals in the UK, including the Leeds, Swansea and Norwich. Frequent performers on leading series in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, they have also broadcast concerts for major radio stations such as Bavarian Radio in Munich, Hessische Rundfunk in Stuttgart and Swiss Radio DRS2 in both Basel and Bern. Their 1998 Wigmore Hall recital was hailed by Strad as possessing "great panache and drama."
Mr. Schmolk is a regular performer with the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields and has led several orchestras under Sir Colin Davis and Lord Menuhin. Mr. May studied with William Pleeth and has performed with the BBC Philharmonic, Ulster Orchestra and Basel Symphony among numerous others. The Jamaican-born Ms. Angell has performed throughout Europe, Japan and Canada.
