Venezia e Napoli: Franz Liszt (1811-1886)

Venezia e Napoli is a set of three pieces composed by Franz Liszt
in 1859, and is part of the book of "Annees de Pelerinage" (Album
of a Voyager). 

The first piece, Gondoliera, is in the style of a Barcarolle. It is
an arrangement of the song "La biondina in gondoletta" by Cavaliere
Peruchini. It contains a beautiful melody which is accompanied later
in the piece by trills in both hands, and then by harp-like arpeggios. 

Canzone is an arrangement of "Nessun maggior dolore", the gondolier's
song from Rossini's opera "Otello". It has a very sinister mood. 

Tarantella is a lively Italian dance. The middle section has a ballad
like song which is played in several different variations of increasing
complexity. There are many passages where the melody notes are repeated
rapidly (similar to the effect Alborado del Gracioso by Maurice Ravel), 
simulating the effect of a guitar or mandolin. 

These pieces should be played in the correct order, with minimum pause
between the Canzone and Tarantella. 

I used a Yamaha Clavinova CLP-123, a sequencing program and a 386 PC
to produce these sequences. They should be played on similar equipment
with plenty reverb for best effect. 

I hope you enjoy this music which I think is quite heavenly.
