Musicology:
This canzona is the fifth of the six canzonas in Froberger's Libro secondo of 1649. The canzona is an imitative genre with its roots in the French chanson of the sixteenth century. They tend to have rhythmically active subjects, and this canzona is no exception. It is short and playful and is one of his most played canzonas. Like the other canzonas by Froberger it is in three sections each with thematically related subjects of imitation. Each of the three sections ends with a brief segment of free rhapsodic material. -
