This exuberant song, "I want to live like this, " like so many Italian songs, is an expression of the joys of nature. The melody and rhymes are deliberately simple, and the total effect should be warm and easy.

Every now and again the broad, flowing rhythmic patterns vary a little, which keeps the song from becoming monotonous. The smooth underlying orchestral accompaniment seems to evoke a light breeze, adding to the simple charm of the music.

"Go, my heart, from flower to flower, with sweetness and love, be my messenger! Go, because my happiness is real and alive only with you. I want to live like this, with the sun on my face, and singing happily with joy. I want to live and enjoy the mountain air, because this magic costs nothing. Ah, ah! Today I'm madly in love with that impudent brook, love's minstrel. Ah, ah! The flowers are making this heart of mine celebrate, do you know why? I want to live like this, with the sun on my face, and happily sing for myself. You don't trick me, golden sun. You caress me, give warmth, you are good. You who breathe my breath, you know how to soothe every pain, countryside!"
