Glinka's setting of Pushkin's V krovi gorit' ogon zhelan'ya (The Fire of Yearning) comes from 1838, the same year as his Someniye (Doubt). Glinka sets Pushkin's almost erotic love poem as a stylized waltz, with a strong melody that begins pompously but ends tenderly above an emphatically triple-timed accompaniment. Not one of Glinka's great songs, V krovi gorit' ogon zhelan'ya is a pleasant trifle to be sung at a soiree.
