Vaughan Williams composed a Christmas cantata, "Hodie" when he was eighty-one. It includes two short sections for unaccompanied chorus. One of these is called "The Blessed Son of God". It is a simple carol with text by Myles Coverdale based on Martin Luther's.:

The blessed son of God only

In a crib full poor did lie;

With out poor flesh and our poor blood

Was clothed that everlasting good.

Kyrie eleison.
