Musicology:
This lively composition is a favorite piece for opening sections vocal recitals, as it falls so naturally into most vocal ranges and shows off vocal ability and musicianship without making many demands upon the voice itself. The frequent contrasts in the work, too, help to focus audience attention on the performer, but don't require spectacular vocal pyrotechnics.
There is a very steady accented rhythm throughout the piece that gives it both momentum and continuity though the contrasting phrases, whether the contrasts are between long and short phrases or soft and louder ones. The accompaniment and the voice work particularly well together, almost swaying together the way that a dancer and her partner would.
"Dance, dance, girl, to my song, dance, dance, sweet girl. Spin lightly, deftly, to the sound of the waves of the sea. Listen to the charming sounds of the playful breeze, that speaks to the heart with a yearning voice, and which invites the dance never to end." -
