Musicology:
The generic title of Michael Tippett's Fanfare for Brass, published in 1971, gives little suggestion of the composer's inventive musical language. The Fanfare does not really follow the model of ceremonial music d'occasion; it is a work better suited, perhaps, to the concert hall. The work juxtaposes two elements: a slightly wild trumpet trio and a more stately chorale. Tippett economically dispatches the musical material of the Fanfare in under three minutes. -
