Musicology:
After composing several symphonies in Rome, Mozart took about a year off from composing symphonies, but resumed his output in Salzburg in summer of 1771. This symphony, because it was discovered after the "official" list of 41 symphones was prepared, was given the misleading tag of "No 46." It is an unusually muscular work and might be called peasant-like, particularly in a stomping dance-tune in the first movement, a decidedly non-aristocratic minuet, and a march in the finale movement. It does have trumpets and drums. -
