This work is an elegant and gracefully poised baroque concerto for cello and string orchestra.

The strings begin the opening Allegro with a polished and assertively happy ritornello. The cello comes in with the material from the tutti and proceeds to expand its discourse through passages of elegant lyricism that alternate with tutti passages comprising the same. Some of the subsequent solo work incorporates elements of virtuosic showmanship, and the melodic lines echo many of their own phrases thoughout the movement.

The solo cello begins the subsequent minor-mode Larghetto, holding forth with a pensive cantilena into which the orchestral strings enter several times with equally probing tutti passages.

The strings start off the concluding Allegro assai with an exuberant ritornello that jumps for joy, prominently featuring triplets in its melodic line. The solo cello enters with similar material and presents a thoroughly joyous discourse throughout its solo passages.
