This is a contentedly happy rag whose feeling of overall well-being is enhanced by chromatic deviations from its basic scales. Its second and third strains occasionally feature melodically interesting bass lines under square on-the-beat figures in the upper voices. The third strain turns pensive with a preponderance of the minor mode, and the fourth recaptures the happy mood of the beginning and features some nostalgic chromaticisms toward the end.
