This rag has a program printed in the sheet music that details the successive strains as progressing from melancholia through good times in which financial brokers eventually forget their cares by listening to ragtime. The chromatically rich melodies and harmonies and start out in a langorous and melancholy mood, eventually brightening in tone and becoming more industrious in texture as the work progresses.
