Musicology:
Imprudentor circumivi is one of the Roman de Fauvel motets by Philippe de Vitry that shows clear evidence not only of the greater rhythmic freedom of the Ars Nova, but also of a new lyricism that became characteristic of fourteenth-century song. The piece also employs another crucial rhythmic innovation of Philippe's: the strict repetition in the tenor of a single rhythmic pattern, much longer than the simple rhythmic-mode patterns that had previously been the norm. Such repetition is termed isorhythm. -
