Musicology (work in progress):
This sprightly piece for viol consort and lute is a coranto or corrente in the Italian style, fast and in triple meter, beginning on the upbeat, and marked by strong if seemingly displaced rhythms. This is a fairly unusual but not unheard-of variety of coranto, with three consecutive melodic strains rather than two. They are all closely related thematically, and each repeats once before moving on to the next. -
