Musicology:
How could any Schubert song with the line "Let me kiss you!" fail to be a charmer? Of course, it could not and Liebeständelei (Flirtation) (D. 206) is indeed charming. More of a Singspiel aria than a Lied, Liebeständelei boldly teases where, apparently, no man has gone before: to his sweetheart lips in music which recalls both Mozart in his earthier moods and Beethoven in his rare erotic moods. A bright and cheerful strophic song in four ardent verses, Schubert's song would be a perfect way to snatch a kiss in a duet recital. -
