  • Skolie II ('Mädchen entsiegelten, Brüder, die Flaschen'), D.507
    Year: 1816
Genre: Solo Song / Lied / Chanson
    Pr. Instrument: Voice
Written in December 1816, Schubert's Skolie was no doubt composed for either a Christmas or New Year's celebration. A skolion was originally a Greek drinking song in which the cup is passed from drinker to drinker until the cup is drained and the drinkers are drunk. This skolion is a triple-time drinking song in G major whose simple melody could be sung by the most inebriated party guest and whose straightforward piano accompaniment could be played by the composer while deep in his cups.
