Musicology:
Lagrima (or tear drop ), is one of F.Tarrega's popular original compositions for the Guitar, a composer who is considered a great contributor to the instrument's technique, repertoire and the revival in modern times.
-
Prelude No.8 in A-, for guitar ('Lágrima')Key: A-
Year: ca. 1880-1905
Genre: Prelude / Fugue
Pr. Instrument: Guitar
In this composition Tarrega characteristically demonstrates his ability to express an idea effectively and very economically. The whole composition which falls in just 16 bars, still carries definite signs of his profound and unique understanding of the instrument .
In the first eight bars (in the key of E major )he introduces his main and rather melancholy idea. One can easily feel the dimension he adds by creating levels of importance in the voicing emphasizing the main melody . He has chosen to construct this part in a smooth, steady and predictable fashion, as if he meant to sedate the listener in order to gain the maximum effect of turning rather expressive and progressively dynamic in the second half, where he switches to E minor.Tarrega finally closes by repeating the first half, what was once an introduction, now works just as good as a finale.
The piece is romantic in style and it is played in a slow flow (andante).Like the majority of Tarrega's works the date of this composition is not known .
