Rest Sweet NymphsYear: 1922
Genre: Solo Song / Lied / Chanson
Pr. Instruments: Voice & Piano
This song for tenor and piano accompaniment has words by an anonymous poet for its text. A slow, lyrical lullaby in triple-meter, this song has gentle impressionist harmonic touches like some of Debussy's early (1870's-80's) works, yet remains very much an original Warlock song. "Rest, sweet nymphs, golden sleep Charm your star-brighter eyes, While my lute her watch doth keep With pleasing sympathies."
