Musicology:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) had made friends with Franz Xaver and Josepha Duschek in 1777 when he was in Prague. While there, he had written the soprano aria Ah, lo previdi (K. 272) for Duschek for insertion into Paisiello's opera Andromeda. When he returned to Prague ten years later to prepare the premiere of Don Giovanni, Mozart stayed at the Duschek's villa outside of Prague. In return, he composed a second work for the soprano, this time a recitative and aria entitled Bella mia fiamma, addio!, K. 528. A far more expansive work than Ah, lo previdi, Bella mia fiamma, addio! has the fiery passion and power of Don Giovanni and could be sung by that opera's Donna Elvira without breaking her character. -
