Mi palpita il cor, cantata, HWV132Year: ca. 1710
- 2.Aria: Ho tanti affanni in petto
- 3.Recitative: Clori, di te mi lagno
- 4.Aria: Se un dì m'adora
Handel set the text of "Mi palpita il cor" four times. It appears that the first version was written early in Handel's days in England, perhaps around 1712. One is for soprano with oboe obbligato and instruments; the others are for alto and (respectively) oboe obbligato, flute obbligato, and a further one with a flute in one aria and an oboe in the other. Handel also used the music frequently in other works, such as the oratorio "Samson." The words of the cantata are those of a young man confused by the onset of love: "My heart palpitates, but I do not know why, " the cantata begins. A fine example of Baroque vocalism.
