Musicology:
For several years in the '60s, Mussorgsky lived on a commune. Yes, there were communes in the 1860s as well as the 1960s, and Mussorgsky, radical man of the people that he was, shared a large apartment in St. Petersburg with a large number of like-minded friends. Among them was V.A. Loginov, who provided him with the theme for the very slight salon piece Duma (Dream), also known as Rêverie, for piano. The work is as memorable as Comrade Loginov, who is not otherwise mentioned in the standard Mussorgsky biographies. -
