    • 3.Vif
The first of a series of three early little sonatas that Poulenc later dismissed as "entertainment", it was written in 1918 and revised in 1945. The work is very brief, not reaching the six minute mark. The first movement, Presto, is rhythmic. Two fast sections frame a slower middle section where the second clarinet provides a strange ostinato accompaniment. The second, Andante, is a quiet meditation The third, Vif, is a Stravinskyan circus-like dialogue between the two instruments.
