  • Violin Concerto No.1 in A-
    Key: A-

The student violinist, once he has attained the ability to shift into higher hand positions and also gained facility with the bow, often is assigned to learn one or another of a nice assortment of "student concertos." These works are practically never heard outside of young violinist's recital programs and are almost always accompanied by piano. This concerto, however, was recorded in 1998 by no less a violinist than Itzhak Perlman on a disc of such concertos.

This concerto is by a late-nineteenth-century French composer (1845-1910). He was a young composer himself when he wrote it in 1868 and it is still currently assigned to students. It is a single movement work with considerable expressive features despite its simplicity of form and means.
