This single-movement keyboard sonata, marked Allegro for tempo, is infectiously merry in mood. It starts with some nudgy melodic repetitions that evince a comical frustration at never getting anywhere, and sometimes the music's pervasive triplet motion shades into virtuosic scalar runs that call to mind a clown falling on his face. There are several unpredictable harmonic shifts along the way, including some comically mock-plaintive forays in the minor mode.
