Sonata in F-, K. 204a
This work is a single-movement keyboard sonata that often changes mood, mode, or meter in mid-phrase. It starts out seriously with a duple-metered Allegro in the minor mode that features imitative interactions between the player's two hands. Without transition the meter changes to 3/8, and again without transition there is a shift to the major mode and a happy feeling in a 6/8 Allegrissimo. The second half alternates between the 3/8 and 6/8 meters, beginning with a concerned tone in the minor mode and eventually returning to happy sounds and the major. There are some striking hemiolas toward the end.© All Music Guide
Sonata in F-, K. 204b
This work is a mildly plaintive single-movement keyboard sonata whose melody is accompanied either by chords or by a single-line counterpoint. Its melody features lots of intra-line motivic repetition.© All Music Guide
