This cantata is remarkably similar to the cantata BuxWV 46; it sets the very same text, Paul's Epistle to the Philippians 1:23 as well as poetry by Michael Walter taken from a Lied in the Neu-erfundene Geistliche Wasser-Quelle 1658. The scoring is nearly exactly the same, two sopranos, bass, two violins, violone, and continuo. The only difference is that Buxtehude does not list bassoon as an alternative for the violone as he does with BuxWV 46. The music in the two cantatas is fairly similar, but not exactly the same. Sometimes Buxtehude will use the same melodic contour in correlative passages in the two settings, but not exactly the same notes. Buxtehude also makes a change in the text. The first line of the third verse of the Lied, reads "Wie einer welcher auf dem Meer, ein Schiffbruch soll erleiden," while in the other cantata the verse begins, "Gleich wieder, welcher auf dem Meer ein Schiffbruch soll erleiden." This text change is minor, and the music in the two settings is different, but the overall form of the two cantatas is the same; a setting of Philippians 1:23 frames a setting of the Walter Lied. Also in the Lied setting each singer has a chance to sing a verse then all three sing the fourth verse together just as is the case in BuxWV 46.
