Musicology:
  • Prelude in D, BWV925 (doubtful, perhaps by W.F. Bach)
    Key: D
    Year: 1720
    Genre: Prelude / Fugue
    Pr. Instrument: Harpsichord
One of nine "little preludes" from the Klavierbüchlein für Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, this is a modest keyboard lesson that may or may not be by Bach himself. It's a bright, two-voice exercise, the top voice clearly dominant and being chased at a short distance by the lower melody, which occasionally recedes into mere harmonic support. With only one or two obligatory trills, the prelude focuses on developing finger dexterity while also requiring a cantabile approach, one skill or the other taking precedence, depending on the player's tempo.
